One third of the council was up for election and the Conservative party stayed in overall control of the council. After the election, the composition of the council was *Conservative 24 *Labour 15 ==Background== Before the election the Conservatives held control of the council with 24 seats, compared to 15 for Labour. 14 seats were contested at the election with both the Conservative and Labour parties defending 7 seats.
